Villa Maria Centre, located in Fortitude Valley QLD, is our residential aged care community offering a home-like environment to its residents. We are in the heart of Brisbane, with transport and shops right at our doorstep. We are currently seeking an experienced Diversional Therapist who has availability to work on a Permanent Part Time basis- 20 hour each week.

The successful applicant will have a strong work ethic, be innovative, motivated and able to plan and prepare activities that are fun, interactive, and encourage choice and participation. There will be an opportunity to work with another Diversional Therapist as well as diversional therapist assistants who are part of an outstanding team, in an award winning organisation.

About the role:

The Diversional Therapist will design a program that will support, challenge, and enhance the overall wellbeing of our residents. Working within the house hold model of care, this role will be an advocate for empowering our residents to make choices and decisions to maximise their participation, engagement and quality of life. The Diversional Therapist will engage with families/carers and residents to identify meaningful insights into their lives prior to residential aged care, with the intention of catering daily programs and activities that provide purpose and a sense of self. 

To be successful for the role you will have:

  • Minimum diploma/ degree in Diversional Therapy or equivalent knowledge of Psycho-social needs of aged people and difficult behaviour management skills
  • Previous experience working in residential aged care
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, programming, coordinating and evaluating resident centred activity programs in residential aged care
  • Understanding of the needs and interests of residents and having a sense of initiating, creating and innovating to meet these needs.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Acts and Legislation relevant to Aged Care and ACFI
  • Ability to manage staff and work in a team environment, providing leadership and guidance to staff
  • Commitment to the philosophy, mission and values of Catholic Healthcare
  • Previous experience working with residents requiring memory support is also desired
